| About the Cottages... | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
| The counties of Kent and Sussex are among the most beautiful in England with their intimate scenery a backdrop to historic towns, their winding country lanes, ancient houses, quiet unspoilt villages, green fields, woods and the orchards of the “Garden of England”. At the centre of this lovely area a few minutes from the centre of the old market town of Tonbridge, Goldhill Mill nestles in an idyllic situation in twenty acres of gardens and pasture beside the River Bourne.
The Mill dates back to Saxon times and was grinding corn when William of Normandy invaded England in 1066 and is mentioned in the Domesday Book. The beautiful old millhouse, part Tudor, part Georgian, exudes an air of calm and tranquility. Across the courtyard from the main building are the three cottages, converted from the mill’s former outbuildings, each individual in character but forming an harmonious group with their walls of old Kent red bricks and peg tile roofs. The cottages provide quiet and luxurious retreats for the discerning holiday maker, all beautifully decorated with hand made curtains and soft furnishings, full of character and equipped to the high standard which has won them the English Tourism Council's top 5 star rating and several awards. Each cottage is close carpeted throughout the living areas and has remote control television and video, mini hifi CD/tape system and direct dial telephone/answering machine in the livingroom and remote control televisions and telephone extensions in the principal bedrooms and clock radio alarms in all bedrooms. Kitchens are all fully equipped with electric fan ovens and gas hobs, microwave ovens, dishwashers, full size fridge/freezers and food processors. All also have a laundry cupboard with automatic washing machine and tumble drier. Great attention has been given to the interior decorations and furnishings of each individual cottage and all the soft furnishings hand made by Shirley are of superb quality. |

| Attractions | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
| Tonbridge with its good range of shops and restaurants is 4 miles away whilst Tunbridge Wells and Maidstone, both about 20 minutes by car, are first class shopping centres. For the shopaholics the Lakeside and Blue Water shopping centres, amongst the very biggest and best in the United Kingdom, are a 30 minute drive.
Hadlow village with its Post Office and basic shops is only a mile and a half away and there are two pubs within easy walking distance, the nearest, the Bell Inn, is only 100 yards from the top of the drive. An infrequent bus service is available to Tonbridge town centre from the bus stop outside the Bell. As far as sporting facilities are concerned, the Mill has its own all-weather tennis court which guests may use by arrangement. There are several golf courses within 20 minutes, Poult Wood, the Municipal course being a 5 minute drive. Tonbridge has an excellent new indoor/outdoor swimming pool and fitness centre and there is another centre a few minutes further away towards Tunbridge Wells which combines indoor tennis and racquet sports with swimming and fitness. |
